Summer Outings 2017

Each year the Society arranges Summer Outings to places of interest. Arrangements for the 2017 outings are in progress and will be added as they are organised.

Thursday 27th April 2017 visit - Guildhall, London (group limit 25 persons)

Guildhall has been the City powerhouse since the twelfth century. In an era when the Lord Mayor of London rivalled the monarch for influence and prestige, this was where he and the ruling merchant class held court, fine-tuned the laws and trading regulations that helped create London’s wealth. Our tour will be led by an official Guildhall guide and will include the medieval Great Hall originally built in 1411.

We will meet in the courtyard of the Guildhall, Gresham Street, London, EC2 7HH at 10.45. The tour will commence promptly at 11.00 am. Cost is £3.50 per person payable on the day but places must be booked in advance.

This outing is now fully booked. If you wish to be put on the reserve list please contact our tour organiser, Jane Shemilt, at our next meeting.

Wednesday 17th May 2017 guided walk - Jewish East End (group limit 25 persons)

The tour lasts about 2 hours and evokes the long gone Jewish Community of the late 19th and early 20th century. It takes us around the Brick Lane and Spitalfields areas. At the end, you can opt for a special treat, an exclusive visit to Sandys Row Synagogue which was founded in 1854 and housed in a converted Huguenot chapel built in 1766.

The fee for the walk is £10 payable in advance. The optional visit to the Sandys Row synagogue is £4 which is payable to the synagogue on arrival.

We meet at Liverpool Street station at 10.30am sharp.
