On-line journals

The Society is in the process of scanning back issues of the annual Journals from 1978 and of the annual Bulletins issued prior to then.

We think the print quality of the Bulletins may be inadequate to enable OCR (optical character recognition) software to reliably convert the scanned images into a text equivalent so we have not attempted to OCR these. The Journals are generally of higher print quality and OCR software has been used, where possible, to convert these into text searchable documents but please note that the article you wish to read may not be text searchable and, where it has been converted to being text searchable, the conversion may contain errors.

Using a search engine such as Google

Where possible, the scanned images of the journals have been inspected using OCR (optical character recognition) software which has attempted to convert the images into text. This has not always worked so sometimes the word(s) you want will not be found by the search engine even though they are in the scanned journal. It is therefore a good idea to also look on the Keyword and possibly Author and Article Index.

Search engines normally inspect the whole of the World Wide Web for matching text and therefore tend to overwhelm you with "hits" but most also allow you to restrict your search to a specific web address. Our Society website is on a communal web address provided courtesy of British Telecomm which we share with other communities. To restrict your search to our particular section of this communal BT web address using say, Google, please paste the following into your browser : -
and change the xxxxxx to the text you want to find. For example, to find references to the house "Ramin" enter :-

Remember that the text conversion attempted by the OCR software is not always accurate so even though a search may not find the word or words that you are searching for, this may not always mean that the word(s) are not contained within the document.

Restricting your search to a specific Journal

Where appropriate, you can always search the document on-line to perform your own search. You can do this using CMD F (Apple) or CTL F (Microsoft).
