About our Society
The society was formed in 1964 and since that time we have produced and published a great deal of research about our heritage and have promoted the conservation of the area through consultation with the local council, arranging lectures and conferences, mounting exhibitions for the local community and the formation of various working parties (e.g. Woodlands; Manor Farm). The objects of the Society and its formal rules are in its constitution.
We are a varied group of people of different ages, with one common interest - our local heritage!
For some, the society provides a social, yet informative outlet. For others it provides a setting for research and discussion. In order to share some of our interest with the local community, we have mounted exhibitions in Manor Farm House as part of the London Borough of Hillingdon Arts Service and Medieval Festival.
We meet on the third Tuesday of the month from September to April at 8.00 pm in St. Martin's Church Hall, High Street, Ruislip. For details see the programme. During the summer we organise several outings and walks/tours.
We have a busy research group working individually or in teams to expand our knowledge of the local history of the area. Each year results of some of the many research projects are published in our Journal which won the coveted LAMAS publications award in 2016. Would you like to join our research group and find out who lived here in the late nineteenth century, what they did for a living and what had changed in the past decade? Contact the Research Co-ordinator. See the Research section of the website for more details.
